The project was assigned to groups of 4 and was to be done on an 16.5 hectares of land in Katunje, Bhaktapur. The planning exercise was done to develop knowledge and design for a larger urban context.
Relevant case studies of existing housing practices in Kathmandu Valley and Literature Reviews on neighbourhood planning, planning theories on urban and rural boundary models, transit oriented developments and pedestrian enviroments were done.
Masterplan Features
Cluster Structures - Dwellings units planned in clusters and around open spaces providing the smaller community spaces to interact
Peripheral Vehicular Access - With a prime objective to create a pedestrian environment for the community including elderlies and children, the inner areas are propsed as vehicle free zone unless an emergency occurs, else vehicles are parked at the periphery of the prosed site.
Hierarchy of Open Spaces and Streets - Allocation of Open Spaces and other community services and amenities proportional to the density of the resident community.
Community Services - A school, community building and a commercial building is also included in the design with respect to the size of the community
Linking Track - A track connects all the clusters and open spaces - promoting social interaction among residents and the community
